I had a friend in grade school whose mother had a well-appointed dressing room that was her luxurious sanctuary. The focal point was a large mirrored vanity. Ornately framed glass trays held a collection of delicate crystal perfume bottles and beautifully organized cosmetics. The gleaming marble floors, overstuffed ottomans and plush rugs completed the scene. I vividly remember the pink and grey color scheme that created a sumptuous, feminine atmosphere. On occasion, when unnoticed I would slip in there by myself and inhale the perfume and run my fingers over the cool surfaces. The color combination still evokes a feeling of elegance and sophistication for me and inspired today’s tablescape. On this breezy spring day the atmosphere was recreated (only not in a dressing room!) but on a vine-covered patio. Pink roses and carnations, charming succulents, and crisp grey and white striped linens complete the scene. A simple pasta lunch with slow roasted garlic, Roma tomatoes, grated Reggiano parmesan cheese and fresh homemade olive bread with a herb olive oil dipping sauce was delicious. The only thing prettier was the mixed baby greens topped with edible nasturtiums.
