This past Summer my brother Christopher was very ill, hospitalized multiple times and had several life saving surgeries. Because I am a firm believer in the philosophy of the great Hippocrates who said "let food by thy medicine and let medicine by thy food", I made it my mission to feed him whole, organic foods as much as possible so his body would have a fighting chance to heal. One thing we can all agree on is that institutional food is less than ideal for optimal nutrition. One of the only meal requests he had was for a classic Thanksgiving meal, and especially wanted a leftover freshly sliced turkey sandwich! I have to admit that is a great fringe benefit of making the effort it takes. Since I had an entertaining obligation to fulfill anyway, I decided to prepare a turkey dinner and kill two birds with one stone (pardon the pun!). The meal was thoroughly enjoyed by both guests and my brother (especially that delicious sandwich!). Most importantly, Chris has improved greatly, put on almost 25 pounds and for now is safely out of the woods. Our prayers are answered with blessings.
