In our house we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday and the day signals renewal, hope, forgiveness and fresh starts. In Florida, it often brings about the transition from the mild Spring weather to the oppressive Summer temperatures. In the garden, foliage and flowers turn from the bright hues of Spring to the cooler colors of blue, white and green to offset the heat. German immigrants in the 1700’s brought with them the tradition of the Easter Hare delivering colored eggs to well-behaved children, and it has evolved into our modern-day tradition of the Easter egg hunt. For so many Americans, Easter Sunday is filled with lovely traditions that focus on family, especially children. For many years as an event planner, I organized holiday events and Easter was always a favorite. What could be cuter than little girls in flouncy floral dresses and little boys in bow ties, all coveting their baskets of new-found goodies. Fashion and decor is soft and pretty leaning towards pastels, floral prints, tulips and hydrangeas. Bright vegetable soups, Spring lamb with mint jelly, asparagus in season and baby new potatoes are typically on the menu. It’s a fun-filled day, but also one of purpose and spirituality. May this Easter bring you and your family peace, harmony and a renewed spirit!
