I have to admit it. I have a girl crush on Jessica Seinfeld. Having followed her stylish books, website and social media posts for a few years now, she never fails to inspire me. Her new cookbook “Food Swings” is no exception. I love her attitude about food and the healthy, yet flexible way she feeds her family. A busy mom, wife and business woman, she manages to keep it all together and unlike the other “Housewives of New York” she actually uses her kitchen for cooking. She appears to actually enjoy the process of preparing fresh, healthful and delicious meals for her brood. The premise behind this particular book (her 4th) is that we all occasionally fall off the wagon and indulge. We are only human after all, and while it may not be an everyday occurrence, it does happen. What I like about her approach is that when she does “cheat” it’s not at the drive through with fatty, salty, restaurant fast food. Rather it is fresh food that is prepared in her own kitchen, where the bad stuff can be somewhat controlled. It’s all about balance, and if you have read my post “finding your food balance” in the wellness section of this blog, then you know I truly believe in this philosophy. The contents of Food Swings are divided into two parts; Virtue and Vice, which is pretty self-explanatory. So far I have only experimented with the virtuous side of the book with; Baked Eggs with Tomatoes, Spinach and Parmesan on page 70 (delicious and easy) and Ginger Salmon with Sesame Cucumbers on page 53 (wild salmon is in season now, so go for it!) and this was equally as delicious and easy.
